Text description provided by the architects. Modern Chinese cities are filled with architecture and furnishings that follow the principle of excessive efficiency, lacking of humanistic care. Therefore, as a reflective thinking of urban living environment, Kale cafe provide people with an interior landscape experience, dividing furnishing and space with functional use. Staying here will make people forget the complexity of urban life.
Using little house as an element to create an outdoor experience, the designer has presented a natural layout, which covers various function of the space, in front of the client through apparently randomness. The space division is completed through little houses that integrated all function: bar, toilet, main entrance, deck. Tree lamps scattered around the little house, turn the “outside” into the “landscape”.
The simplifying and regularity minimum the technical factors, while the emphasis on reuse of several materials has effectively limited the budget and guaranteed the quality at the same time. New ventilation device combined with the original architectural structure so that becomes invisible and saves a lot of transformation of the space.
Kale Café’s design has brought to people a modern fresh design, for in Chinese people’s mind, most common image about cafes is dim, wooden like, or rural style. This fresh and pleasant environment helps a new café brand establish its unique identity when entering the market. Simple style and fine planning controlled the costs and schedule effectively, so that the café has made a good profits. Strong symbols of the design have set a unified style for the future chain shop.
